8th July 1917

Very cold day. No view. No ballooning.

Went to Boulogne and met Colonel returning from leave.

Called at 11th Wing on the way back and had dinner.

Bad thunderstorm last night.

 

9th July 1917

Dull cold day, no view.

No 2’s balloon (BMS 127) was hit by shell fire whilst on its bed. Almost 20 small holes and one tear 6 inches long made on port side. Holes repaired and balloon topped up. About 20 tubes lost. Inspected balloon and repair in morning.

Visited proposed new camp and balloon bed with Meyler.

11th Balloon Coy arrived at Nieppe at 4pm consisting of Nos 16 and 33 Sections. Selected two balloon beds and camps for new Company between No 25 and 32.

Bolitho dined here and slept the night.

No ballooning all day.
