29th July 1917
Dull day, no view at all. Severe thunderstorm in morning.
No 15’s balloon FM 117 was struck by lightning on its bed and burnt. Went to No 15 and examined remains of balloon. One sheet of wind screen was burnt. Visited No 9 and found everything correct. Called at 6th Coy.
Silverstone called and I explained irregularities at dump.
No 15’s balloon FM 108 was inflated with tubes.
30th July 1917
Dull day. No view.
Visited No 15 and ascertained they required a new balloon net. Went to No 9 and found everything in order.
Went to Armentieres with Blot and collected 4 chairs. Town had been badly shelled all day. Shelling commenced again whilst we were there, so we left.
Blot and Biggs dined here.
Zero hour at 3.50 am tomorrow.
